In the fall of 1994 two Louisville tennis enthusiasts,
Rob Scott and Kelly McKee, suspected that Eastern Boulder County had
grown to the point that it might be able to support a volunteer, member
driven, organization to promote and facilitate tennis in Louisville
and surrounding areas.
In late October they mailed a letter to everyone they could find
in the area that had an interest in tennis inviting them to an organizational
meeting to be held at the Louisville Recreation Center on the evening
of November 16th. Approximately 30 people attended.
(It should be noted that bribery was involved as it had indicated
in the invitation that the first 24 people to show up would receive
a free can of Pro-Penn tennis balls and would be "entered in
a drawing for a pair of K-Swiss shoes" The name of the
winner was not recorded for posterity.)
Those present selected a Steering Committee to deal with developing
an organizational structure and getting the resulting organization
off the ground. Steering Committee members included:
Rob Scott
Gary Erikson
Colleen Weaverling
Kelly McKee
Steve McNulty
Bernie Raibley
Ted Hine
Hugh Swenson
Yank Mojo
John Buri
Celeste Clingan
Mary Anderson
Gene Morris
The Steering Committee met several times during
December 1994 and formulated some initial ideas as to what the
organization would do and how it would be structured. An
"Acting" Board of Directors (to run things till the
organization had a more formalized structure and a list of dues
paying members) was nominated, and a dues schedule was formulated
which included the one time, special category of "Charter
Member" for those willing to contributed $100 each at a time
when the organization's checking account was otherwise empty but
funds were badly needed to get things started. The
CVTA has three Charter Members:
Yank Mojo
Ted Hine
Steve McNulty
CVTA 1995
On Jan 16th, 1995 the organization had its second
general meeting at the Louisville Recreation Center and the Steering
Committee made its report to the attendees. The "Acting"
Board of Directors was elected and the group debated the merits
of several possible names, finally deciding on Centennial Valley
Tennis Association.
During it's successful first year the CVTA held several socials,
operated men's and women's ladders, fielded a couple of league
teams, organized Friday night drop in tennis at the Rec. Center,
and hosted the first Louisville Open Tennis Tournament (September
8-10).
By August, 1995 membership totaled 70 (not including multiple
family member).

Day parade and passed out hundreds of used tennis to excited
kids along the parade route. Efforts were continued to encourage
Louisville to build several new tennis courts and install lights
at the Recreation Center courts.
